How this site is made, and after whom it is named.

The name

Marionette 7 is taken from Sandrone, Seventh of the Eleven Fatui Harbingers in Genshin Impact, whose codename is «The Marionette» — an engineer who prefers the company of her automatons. The name suits a site about machines that are built carefully and expected to behave. Her portrait on the front page is official artwork, © HoYoverse, adapted and used here as non-commercial fan content under their fan-creation guidelines.

Sandrone herself is an older borrowing: HoYoverse named the Harbingers after the masks of the commedia dell’arte, and the original Sandrone is the shrewd Modenese peasant of Emilian puppet theatre — a marionette in the literal sense since the early nineteenth century.

The type

Text and display are set in EB Garamond, Octavio Pardo’s revival of Claude Garamont’s sixteenth-century romans, self-hosted as a variable font. The specification layer — navigation, indices, section numbers, dates — is set in the reader’s own monospace, the way tolerances are pencilled onto a drawing.

The layout

The page is an engineer’s folio: a full-bleed sheet of faint drafting grid, prose held to a readable measure on the left with working margin to the right, sections numbered like clauses in a specification, and cards cornered with registration brackets.

The palette

The colours are lifted from the Marionette’s own wardrobe: porcelain ivory for the page, automaton steel-blue for links, brass for the hairlines and ornament, and a single ribbon of crimson reserved for the reader’s attention — hover, selection, and the drop cap.

The machinery

The site is compiled by Jekyll on the bones of the al-folio starter and its plugin gems, though the surface has been rebuilt to its own design. Source is on GitHub; pages are served by GitHub Pages.
